Changed out a water heater for a friend today. He gave me the old one, a 4 year old Whirlpool Energy Smart electric water heater. This is a high end heater, 10 year tank warranty.
The problem is in the electronic controls. Looking online, this model has a reputation for the controller to go bad. The solution is argue endlessly with non-English speaking customer service morons, or buy an expensive new controller, neither of which I will do.
My first thought was to convert it to standard mechanical thermostats, but there are no brackets to mount them to the tank.
