The hardware in the small community near me is very much like that. He generally figures the total on a piece of paper, and then opens the register. It's one of those old stores with a ladder on the wall to reach the high shelves. Poor guy is suffering from big stores like Lowes builders supply,etc. Last time I was in there, the big lazy Susan type nail bin was empty. No nails. Some of the paint shelves were empty. I guess their time is about over, but I sure hate to see them go.
