Every year my wife and I host her extended family on Christmas Eve. A tradition for many years has been the "white elephant" gift exchange, where everyone brings a wrapped gift and we draw numbers to pick our gift.
This year, as always, I wrapped my gift very carefully. My gift-bomb had only one chance in ten of striking one of its two intended targets, and I was taking no chances it would be overlooked. As luck would have it, my stepson's girlfriend drew number 1 and immediately homed in on the carefully-wrapped present. I should note that she and my stepson have decided that baby can come before marriage, a source of some consternation in the family. Everyone in the house howled when she opened the gift to reveal two wedding planning books I'd picked up at a used bookstore.
