Mark, They sure sound like a Muscovy. They are truly a duck but the males are about as big as a Canadian goose but with a shorter neck, and probably thicker neck too.
I have had a bunch of them for around 10 years. The come in all different colors. Here is a pic of a white one next to my 175 lb. Mastiff to give you an idea of how big they get. The rest are Pekin, Rouens and Indian Runners.
