Royse: All the units I was in, 74-96 did half days over the Christmas season. 0600 PT, 0830 work call formation. Then busy stuff till 1100 (to include playing tactical board games). One unit even went so far as to do 1/2 days with every other day off. I never heard anyone complain. Back then our duty day in reality was from 0530 to EOM (for those who don't know "end of mission"), generally 1730 or later. Last couple of years I was in they started "predictable duty days". You would be released at 1700. First day that was in effect our 1SG did his normal 1700 formation. The commanding general was out to see if his orders were being followed (would be released no later than 1700). He caught the ISG forming us up at 1700. We never worked late again.
