Hi I pride my self in my work and use silicone gasket maker a lot. Most of the stuff i work on is getting hard to find certain gaskets for,on the parts guys shelf, or without a 2 week or longer wait for it to come in if available. I am perfectly capable of making replacement gaskets in the appropriate manner. However my customers won't pay me the extra hours to make perfect hand crafted replacements. some gaskets are very time consuming and hard to do, Like the carb gasket on a Fordson E27N 3 goes to get it right!. Does this make me less of a mechanic using a modern replacement method in some applications. I'm guessing not as some of the new stuff i take apart has a sealer instead of gaskets. I will add that it annoys the heck out of me seeing the sealer hanging out the sides on jobs, and I always wipe or trim any extra from the outsides when finishing assembly and clean up.
