This is interesting. I think you touched on something when you mentioned first time ownership vs. inter-generational ownership. My family has farmed on this road for about 200 years. I am the sixth generation. Everything went to mother upon father's death, and she quickly and quietly gave it ALL to baby brother. That was 20 years ago, and it's all gone. I own 250 acres, a full line of equipment, grain storage/handling facility, shop, barns, etc. and made my last payment in Jan. It has been a hard road. I defend it ferociously. I know I would feel more generous if I had been shown some generosity.
