When I bought the new Camry, I put in synthetic oil right away. I'm still using regular oil in the 11-year-old Tundra - just didn't seem right to me to switch oil in a used vehicle, although I know that some people have done it.
We specified synthetic oil in all new vehicles at ADOT in engines, transmissions and drive axles. End results were fewer failures and fewer repairs, so it was worth the higher initial cost.
