A few years ago, it was advised to not switch from petroleum to synthetic, or vice-versa, after app. 12K miles, because they have different "oil swell properties".
Today ---some say you can, have no idea what changed, but I stick with their first warning.
I consider synthetics to be the best protection you can buy in Extreme driving conditions.
Where I live and the type driving I do, I do not use Synthetics.
