It had a creeper pre-range gear set that gave 12 speeds LOWER than 1st! I used to use it in 'creeper 9' to follow me along my driveway, without an operator, while I tossed oversize stones into the bucket. I had to walk back every couple of minutes to adjust the steering wheel. : I mention this, because the JD 420/430 series had an optional low range input gear set that sat in the center frame in place of the direction reverser. If one of these show up it will go 1/4 the speed of your 40 in low (given the same engine speed)..... Now that 420 low range gear set would be the thing to have. I need to put an ad in the classified looking for one of them. I bet they're about as scarce as a Waterloo Boy with original paint.
