Assuming a Starter Relay with 3 terminals (two big one small)is used with the key switch, do the following: With 14 gauge wire, start at the starter side connection of the relay (not battery or the little one) connect a Diode in that wire (5 amp 200 volt) so voltage will go from the starter to the ignition coil, and not the other way) Put the band end of the diode toward the coil. The wire then connects to the coil side of the ballast resistor. Now when the starter turns, cranking voltage goes to the coil bypassing the resistor. In addition, the ignition system cannot try to turn the starter. It will give the coil proper volts to fire the engine, then let it run through the resistor. If it is a 4 terminal relay one little one will be marked "I" just connect this to the ignition coil directly, bypassing the resistor as above, as it needs no diode. Jim
