My son's minivan quit at my place on Monday. After I moved it into my garage, I checked the battery and had 0.7 volts. Previous to this, we had a battery charger on it for several hours. Last night I installed a new battery. When we tried to hook up the negative cable there was a very large and loud spark. I took an ohm meter and found that there was no resistance between the positive cable and the frame. There must be a direct short somewhere. My guess is that the positive cable to the starter must have worn the insulation off and shorted out. I think it could possibly be the starter and or solenoid, but that is not my first guess. Any other ideas?
