As j hikemper said I would like to know how he got the water in there except by condensation. My forklift has a big old 6 cyl chrysler in it, and unless I work it for about an hour, which is very rare, the oil will stay milky. A forklift mechanic friend told me that it is just the way they are. Just find some work for that 284, and clear up the oil. You actually don't state whether this is transmission or crankcase but it works for both.
