Water in oil

My uncles has a IH 284 tractor that got water in the oil because sat overnight outside in the rain. Is there anyway to remove the water from the oil. I,drained and refilled bit still some water. I want to take care of this ASAP before the water freezes.

I can't understand how leaving a tractor out in the rain overnight could do that. I think you have a bigger problem. Assume it's the engine oil. It might be the coolant leaking down into the pan.

OK, you stated that you drained and refilled the oil. If you let it drain for some time, the water should have drained out also. If there is substantial amounts of water in the new oil, more than likely there is another problem. As has already been said, it could be a leaking gasket, or, perish the thought, a cracked head or block. I am not familiar with this particular tractor, but if it has wet sleeves, a seal could be leaking. I would keep my eye on it for a few days and if more water appears in the oil, there is definitely a problem elsewhere.

unless the tractor has been submerged up to the manifolds while parked in a lake for a month ,, there is no way you could have a water problem , like that from an overnite rain///// get someone to take a look at that tractor ,, obviously you are having much more serious problems and are not able to confirm what they are on your own /// don't let this tractor freeze up and bust,,.and don't run it with antifreeze in the oil least you want to buy a motor ,, antifreeze is death to rod and main crankshaft bearings

Shader, actually, water is HEAVIER than oil and will be in the bottom of the oil pan and drain out FIRST.

Touche' Bob, You are 100% correct! Funny how we tend to forget or overlook some things. Thanks for shaking the old memory, that info was filed on a shelf that doesn't see much activity anymore! LOL

As j hikemper said I would like to know how he got the water in there except by condensation. My forklift has a big old 6 cyl chrysler in it, and unless I work it for about an hour, which is very rare, the oil will stay milky. A forklift mechanic friend told me that it is just the way they are. Just find some work for that 284, and clear up the oil. You actually don't state whether this is transmission or crankcase but it works for both.

I know it is probably not relevant to the OP question but I think a 284 is a Japanese I-H, made by Komatsu. Also do not see how one night in the rain could put water in oil.
