So why do you want to get rid of the 7.3? It can"t be beat if they are offering you that much for it...
I understand they are a little louder than the new diesels and gas trucks. The front end is probably 500 lbs heavier than a gas and all the bushings and bearings etc in the front end will need to be redone more frequently...Diesel is a bit more expensive than gas.
Now I have a V10 F350 with a 12 foot deck. It replaced a 6.9 F350 with 10 foot deck - it was pretty beat! My buddy had the 7.3 in a F250 - I drove it a bit pulling a trailer and a lot of stuff in the box.
The 7.3 was nice - he curses getting rid of it now. It pulled far better than his new truck 6.4?L gas F250.
My V-10 has tons of power, pulls and carries far better than the 6.9(but the 6.9 was beat). I really like my F350 but I would get rid of it as soon as possible if I had to drive it every day. I would happily look for a 7.3 with 80,000 miles. The V 10 sucks fuel- again I dont care because I use it infrequently for short moves, and it does a great job.
Did I mention I wouldn"t want to drive it every day. My F250 5.4L Crewcab with full box does 90% of my work. Its not too bad on gas and fairly comfortable, just long for city use.
There is no perfect truck. I would stick with what you have.

The need for fabricating becomes obvious when you go to buy any of these
