That tractor is old enough for me to tell you that you may have a set of cables going bad. You can't see it, but they will corrode under the connectors, and heat may add to the resistance in them. Take an ohm meter, and go from the end to the cab;e, from the post to the cable, end to end, etc., and see if there is any amount of resistance. If there is any, try having a new set of cables built and put them on. Bet you'll see a great improvement.
