There was a vendor at our local tractor show some years ago that had a whole box truck full of brand new Briggs 10hp electric start engines new in the box. Price was about half of retail. He had one out front with the front of the box cut away so you could see it. What he didn't tell you was that were genset motors with the tapered shaft. Must have sold a dozen of them and then packed up and left and never came back. There was quiet a few people looking for him the next morning. I did take a Briggs Vanguard V twin once and pull it down and change the crank out for a friend of mine so he could use it on a belt drive water pump it had the tapered shaft in it game off of a big generator. He got the motor for free so it was worth the expense of a new crank
