Small engines with tapered shaft: pullies?

I always have an abundance os small engines off gensets that have a tapered crankshaft end. Do they sell pullies to fit these tapered shafts? i'd sure like to use up some of these engines.

Getting the connection apart is not the problem.......finding a pulley with the correct taper so the engine can be used for another purpose.......that might be troublesome!

There was a vendor at our local tractor show some years ago that had a whole box truck full of brand new Briggs 10hp electric start engines new in the box. Price was about half of retail. He had one out front with the front of the box cut away so you could see it. What he didn't tell you was that were genset motors with the tapered shaft. Must have sold a dozen of them and then packed up and left and never came back. There was quiet a few people looking for him the next morning. I did take a Briggs Vanguard V twin once and pull it down and change the crank out for a friend of mine so he could use it on a belt drive water pump it had the tapered shaft in it game off of a big generator. He got the motor for free so it was worth the expense of a new crank

The trick is to save the tapered end of the armature shaft. Find an appropriate weld on pulley or sprocket to mate to it.

Option B is to find someone who knows how to use a lathe to make you some hubs.

Can you install a coupling on the flat part of the shaft? It's been a long time since I've been around a small engine off of a generator and can't remember how much straight shaft there is before it begins to taper.

There are standards, SAME maybe?, for the tapers on those shafts and I've seen adapters somewhere for them. I think I have a catalog someplace with them outlined. I'll see if I can find it...if my rememberer works!
