It fell out of use as a Post Office in about 1850, when the railway came through. The door was blocked up and a mail box was built into it, thats the small rectangle in the centre. The postman would cycle round 5 or 6 times every day and empty the box as he delivered the letters. A new Post office was built about 5 miles away to deal with the mail.
