Farm Door Pictures

Not strictly tractors, but 4 shots taken in 1 farmyard. Number1 is the original village Post Office from 1715, building has only 1 door, no windows for security.Shot 2 is the steps and door leading to the granary, built in about 1450, still in use as a timber store for a carpenters shop. Shot 3 is carpenter shop door, also from 1450, look at the number of times the door has been altered.Shot 4 is a building put up in 1920 using ex- government corrugated iron sheet. The catch on the door has been altered over the years so that it still works despite the shape of the door.

The first photo shows an interesting resemblance to George Washington's original tomb at Mt. Vernon.

Somehow I don't think the pole barns we are building today are going to last 3 or 4 hundred years, but I guess they could be like my uncle's hatchet 150 years old 10 heads and 40 handles have been replaced. Thanks for posting.

It fell out of use as a Post Office in about 1850, when the railway came through. The door was blocked up and a mail box was built into it, thats the small rectangle in the centre. The postman would cycle round 5 or 6 times every day and empty the box as he delivered the letters. A new Post office was built about 5 miles away to deal with the mail.
