J. Schwiebert you more than likely are correct on the needle bearings. It has been 30 plus years ago that I did mine. I remember the input shaft was welded to the gear that road on it. I had to cut it out of the transmission.
The tractor was full of gear oil to where it should have been but I think the filter was plugged some. I have always changed that filter every other oil change, 200 hours. I have not had any trouble since.
