john, your truck will have either a 105 amp alternator, or a 130 amp alternator. if your battery bank is extremely low, the alternator will get extremely hot trying to charge them. when we replace an alternator here at the shop, we always fully charge the battery before starting the vehicle to cut down on the excessive output of the new alternator. maybe put some kind of doo-dad in the circuit to limit the amps that the circuit can draw?
