Not that this is the best place for medical advice, I think it would be wise to stay calm, remain rational. What I don't get is a diagnosis, followed by extensive tests, I would think its the other way around.
The self insured thing, I assume that means your paying out of pocket. Thats a tough situation, especially with the way things are. I would hope you could self fund a plan that there is no pre existing condition scenario that causes you problems.
Instinct would tell me you have to get to a real doctor, not a medicine tosser like so many are today, and get that diagnosed in short order, as well as doing something to get insured if at all possible, the one thing you absolutely do not want to do is let a half-@ss physician like the one you already saw, or the current system cause any waste of time, something like that needs to be taken care of immediately, which means not wasting time with a doctor who does what you describe. My father, and another person I know got the run around from doctors, both found doctors that would do their best to help, and they are both alive today because of it.
