Prayers needed?

2 weeks ago I started having left side neck pains, so I went to my chiropracter. He said no problem you have arthiritis in your upper neck.
3 days after the last of the 3 sessions I went to Med Express because the pain was still there and now I had developed a mass about the size of a golf ball. They took 5 xrays and decided I had a strained cervical. They gave me 2 meds , one a muscle relaxer and the other an inflamation reducer. After 6 days these pills did nothing other than make me sick. Went back to them last nite because I can't get in to see my regular Dr until next Tues. Dr there looked at me and said "You have a cancer tumor".He wanted to start extensive testing and I said I am self insured. Well that stopped him and in about 30 minutes he came back and said, I can give you some antibiotics and a pain killer , but you will have to sign this release form freeing me from any law suits. I am about scared out of my mind and don't know what the h*ll is going on. My discharge paperwork just says neck mass with no mention of cancer. Confused in Pa.

Not that this is the best place for medical advice, I think it would be wise to stay calm, remain rational. What I don't get is a diagnosis, followed by extensive tests, I would think its the other way around.

The self insured thing, I assume that means your paying out of pocket. Thats a tough situation, especially with the way things are. I would hope you could self fund a plan that there is no pre existing condition scenario that causes you problems.

Instinct would tell me you have to get to a real doctor, not a medicine tosser like so many are today, and get that diagnosed in short order, as well as doing something to get insured if at all possible, the one thing you absolutely do not want to do is let a half-@ss physician like the one you already saw, or the current system cause any waste of time, something like that needs to be taken care of immediately, which means not wasting time with a doctor who does what you describe. My father, and another person I know got the run around from doctors, both found doctors that would do their best to help, and they are both alive today because of it.

I'll say a prayer for you. The worst part about any new ailment is the unknown, especially when the doctor uses the C word. I wish you the best. Jim

I'm pulling for you,but to tell the truth, when I saw the subject line,I thought you'd bought that Belarus.

Go to your Dr. as soon as you can and find out what is really wrong . Those walk in clinics are a joke the ones here have nurse practioners neighbor when to one with a real bad rash they told him it was poison oak or sumac turn out to be shingles the first word they ask what type of insurance do you have.

There are various tests for cancer. For example, it is common for your prostate to enlarge with age however a cancer diagnosis typically includes a PSA blood test and/or a biopsy...BTDT.

A friend of mine a large lump on side of his neck. It was determined to be a mass of blood vessels and removed. I would suggest taking a deep breath until you have a fact/test based diagnosis.

I hear claims, the reason health care costs are out of control is that physicians request too many tests. My experience has been that diagnosis are many times made without any tests.

Good Luck

This makes me really upset. You work hard and are self-insured. You would be better off being an unemployed low-life without any desire to improve yourself and live off the gov't and you would be fully covered. I know that not all unemployed are low lives but you get my drift. Prayers sent and be strong.

That Doctor should not have been talking out of his hat, he must be an idiot. A tumor probaly comes on gradual, not all at once like your problem seems to have, I hope you can get in to see a Doctor you can trust before long and find out the quack was full of stuffing.

The Dr. (if he is one) had no right to give you that diagnosis with no tests and no biopsy.

Self insured = uninsured. Pay as you go, just like gasoline.

If you have a relationship with a DR. call and explain the situation...be forceful. Insist on seeing the DR. Today! He is not god...he is a Dr. paid to help sick people. Your Dr. has space for a few emergencies. If he does not have that flexability in his office, you need a new Dr. with a smaller ego, and wallet.

The kind of medicine you have experienced is the reason our health care costs are out of control. He saw you not as a patient...but as a customer. Big difference between patient and customer....max the profit potential.

Sorry for your situation. No one deserves such harsh and thoughtless treatment by an MD. But when you get through this, think long and hard about how we pay for healthcare, and get some insurance. Even if you are young and healthy as a horse and never going to get sick or have an accident.

If you are self insured, you'd better have pretty deep pockets. Even multimillionares that I know have health insurance.

Your request was for prayer. I have done that for you. Everyone else, please reread his post. He did not ask for everyone"s thought on the Dr. or insurance, he asked for prayer!

Check with the new medical laws with the hospital. My grandson dropped all of his insurance when he found that they have to treat you without regard to your ability to pay or how you pay after he was impaled on a fence post. He had a great deal to pay over and above what the insurance paid. He has the ability to pay but instead had his last hospital stay put on a monthly bill that is equal to what his insurance premium was before he dropped his insurance. The hospital and doctors had no problem with this arrangement. Go have the tests done without thinking about the cost. Something can be worked up that you can afford after it is over.

You need to sign up for health insurance through your state's "exchanges", pronto. Everybody is supposed to sign up by October 1, and they cannot turn you down because of a pre-existing condition, like they used to.

I'm not a big fan of external_linkcare, but in your case, it will work in your favor.

My nephew had a detached retina in 2011 and his doctor sent him to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and told him to go to their emergency entrance. He has no health insurance and only works part time. They had to do the surgery twice and he didn't pay a nickel. The doctors wanted to know if he lived with us and we told them he has his own home. There's a law in MD if he was living with us we would be responsible for the 16 grand.

In 2007 we had Christmas dinner at my sister's home about 30 miles away from us. Our daughter is a Nurse Practitioner and she asked my sister if she was feeling ok. She was very thin and she said she had a lump on her neck and her doctor told her not to worry about it.

We told her and my nephew to get her to surgical clinic to have a biopsy taken of that lump. It came back negative. The doctor she had at the clinic told her he wanted to remove the whole lump
and have it tested. So they removed the lump. The doctor called them both to come in as he bad news. He told her it was Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He told her upfront there's no cure and it spreads fast. She died in Sept 2008 about 4 months after she received the results of the biopsy. Hal

There I go again, breaking unwritten rules that I did not know were published. So I can only be anonymous with one alias? Sorry, I so wanted to be a multiple anonymous alias internet rascal.

PS: What is the punishment? I hope it is less than the punishment for the thoughtlessly cruel replies to this poor guys prayer request.
