MarkB_MI had the best answer. Safe Harbor rules give you something to work with. I would suggest making estimated payments if it looks like you are going to have a huge windfall in profits this year too. Farm returns are a little more complex than the cookie cutter training that the "block" stores give their employees. But if you're comfortable with it, a farm return is pretty straight forward. All tax preparers have to be certified now (this includes CPA's too) but ask your preparer how much experience they have with Sch F and what kind of training they've had. You're paying them!
