Digger wasps are largely non-stinging(they will sting you, if you sit on them, or trap them in a fold of skin), independent units, they hollow out a chamber, sting a victim bug, and lay their egg in the drugged victim, and seal the chamber. There must be something in your landscape that they are feeding on. Lots of times the bugs that they feed on cause more damage than the digger wasps. I leave them alone, if you mow your lawn regularly, they generally don't cause much of a problem.
