When they are brand new, it takes a bit to get the paint wore in on the knotter parts before they start tying consistently. Also, the balers with side density doors just adds another layer of confusion to getting a consistent knot without breaking them. It's a fine line between "tight bale" and "broken knot."
How close are you to Morgan County? One of my ancestors moved down there, and had a huge family. From what I understand, there are only 2 types of ground down there... Steep hills or rocky hills.
