You must be thinking of another movie. 12 O'clock High was a first world war movie. I also think it may have received the very first Oscar for best picture but can't recall off the top of my head. It was my dad's favorite movie and one of the reasons he transfered to the air force when he signed up for WW II. He was a tail gunner in a Halifax bomber and the only survivor of his crew.
