I have an old Brockway dump that has trouble starting. after charging for awhile it will start and run nice. I changed the batteries and it didn't matter. when you shut it down you have to charge it to start it again immediately. I took the "alternator" off & had a shop look at it and they told me it was fine but was a generator not alternator. this is a negative ground system. the question is are all generator systems 6 volt systems and if so how do I make the charging/starting problem go away. the batteries are 12v wired in parallel configuration. any id tags have worn off or are unreadable so I'm not even sure of the year of the truck.
