Post a pic of what you are doing. Car frames are frequently hard steel, that's why they can be so thin. But that can cause problems with welding if you don't know how to do it. Most of the skid loader is made from mild steel so you should use that if possible. If you could post a pic or give a better description of what you are trying to accomplish it would be easier to give accurate advice.
