How wide are the axles? If it's 18" from frame to springs that will be stretching 2x2 tube. What are you going to need to get clearance above your tires? You probly have room for 2x4 tube and that would be better unless you have fairly narrow axles and only need to go about 12" outside the frame. Use either tube or channel of what ever height you need to get clearance in one step to keep it stable. Make sure you put a crossmember at each spring hanger to keep everything from flexing when turning. What do you mean by "c/w brakes"?
