Heath72, I am Not going let you berate the 4.6,5.4 Series as a whole, it was the Trident engines that gave head trouble in the 1999 to 2001 time frame, That, was corrected later and No real problems as a whole occurred since,
My oldest Rig a 97 F-150, built in June of 96,,, 4.6 Windsor, Auto 3:55 gears in a Super-cab Long bed, 4x4, has right at 355,000 miles and has never had a problem that wasn't a wear issue. OBTW this engine has never been apart, ever! I have pulled loads that will scare the H3ll out of most 3/4tons! More times than I can count!
Next oldest was an 04 Expedition with a 5.4 it had 237,000 when my son was involved in a wreck with it, it ran great and was never apart while I owned it.
Another 04 Expedition with a 5.4 it has 127,000 our main stay now. All my rigs got better mileage before they started putting that crappy Ethanol in our Gasoline. By 2 to 4 mpg.
I have had today, 13 Fords in a Row!!!I do not trade on a whim. But, When I get rid of one it is wore-out!
Those of us who run Fords every day do so because we love them and what they do for us every day.
We DO NOT Buy Fords so we sit at the coffee shop and brag about fuel mileage.....We Buy Fords so when we Hook up to a big Gooseneck load of Bulls, or a a trailer load of hay or building material it will step out and walk with it , No faltering or failing, PERIOD!
If you are only in to looking at Fords thinking you will get gas mileage you will be sadly disappointed! Stick with your GMs. You have No Business Driving a Ford.
Later,
John A.
.
PS.. I also have a 01,F-350 Crewcab, 7.3 Dsl with 240,000 miles too.
My 2011 Edge has the Non-turbo version on the Eco-boost engine it get about 23MPG when I put a pencil to it the Computer says 21, It has close to 80,000 on it today!
Personally I believe a man is Always better of with a Ford over a GM any day! Ford took No Government Money! The 6.2 is a monster engine but they are thirsty, But a powerhouse beyond belief. Just look at the Raptors!
Hope this helps!
later,
jas
