Any late model F150 owners out there?

I was looking at new F150s the other day and was impressed with the nice interiors, wide variety of trim and colors and gas mileage ratings. What do you F150 owners think? Is the milage as advertised? Are the new engines dependable?

The ones I looked at either have the 5.0 or the Ecoboost. The old 5.4 was nothing but trouble with the head/spark plug issues and I want nothing to do with one of those.

I have always been a Chevy guy and am currently driving a 1998 K1500 with 205,000 trouble free miles, but the new Chevys have a rather unimpressive interior and I'm not that crazy about the exterior either.

What do you guys have to say about the new F150s?

I have owned 4 new chevys bought a f150 xlt extened cab this fall it has the 5.0 I GOT IT FOR ABOUT 1500 cheaper than the chevy and it has more options love it so far getting about 17 mpg on 12 mile trips back and forth to work took on a trip down the free way got a little over 20 not crazy for the way it locks into 4 wheel drive have to make sure it is in or out before you take off

FIL and BIL each own one. Gets good mileage if their foot not in it. FIL towing a 24 ft long 8 ft wide camper gets same gas mileage almost exactly as my empty gas 5.4 F350.

Our son bought a new Ford last year, has had trouble with the transmission position sensor, it doesn't know its in P, won't let him start it. It seems to be fixed now, he had in in to the dealer a couple of times, I think they finally changed the sensor. I just traded Chevys in March, not sure why, after 7 years they really didn't change much for the better. I am not too impressed with the 6 speed, mileage isn't that great. I like the back-up camera for hooking up to trailers!

I only know one person who has one with the Ecoboost. That thing will get up and go. We took it for a 6 hour, 400 mile round trip last weekend and he only stopped once for gas, and that was almost home. I wont say it was perfectly comfortable for me though.Still some concerns on the 5.0, according to the service manager when I was shopping for new trucks a few months ago, but those were mostly in the Mustangs, and Ford has supposedly fixed those issues. I liked the Ford, but I was on a limited budget, with an insurance check, and the Chevy I got was priced 10 grand cheaper.

If you are looking at GM they made a decision some years ago to "distinguish" the two truck lines. How that decision is implemented in the "new" GM I'm not sure, but the GMC's were trimmed out a bit nicer than the Chevy's. I know when I bought my 2010 Ford, I wound up with a Lariat because I could not find an equivalent trim GMC or Chevy 4x4 at the local dealers.

By the way, if you trailer especially with one with brakes, INSIST that the truck they provide has the factory brake controller already installed. It can be added later but will cost nearly twice if the dealer does it and the dealer has to at least reprogram the computer to make it function.

I HAVE A 5.0 2012
LEFT IND TO FLORIDA IN JAN GOT THERE 21.9 M/G
COMMING BACH GOT 20.1 M/G
2 ND TIME PULLING A 8 FOOT TRAILER WITH GULF CART ON IT THE MILLAGE WAS 18.3 M/G

VERY HAPPY
MY IS A WORK TRUCK EXT CAB 8 FT BED

I have a 2012 with ecoboost and will never buy another one ...yes it will run if you put your foot on the floor but just normal driving it skips or jerks ....Ford put a new intercooler on it and I drove it to Arkansaw and back jerked all the way unless I was really gassing it...I had a 5.4 wish I had it back I also own 2 with 5.0 that are 2 wheel drive that people who work for me drive the 5.0 is a smoother motor and get as good or better MPG than my 4 wheel drive ecoboost. like I said my one and only ecoboost

I have a 2012 xlt 3.5 ecoboost and love it . It has 34000 miles on now and gets from 19 to 23 miles to the gal. Had a 2004 with a 5.4 before and this truck will run around it and get 5 miles better mileage pulling 8000 lb trailer.

Good friends son Has an EcoBoost. Hauls a bobcat all over the place with plenty of power and good economy. A different Ford dealer who is a close long time friend of theirs told him to get rid of it before it hits 100k or plan to change both turbos and a bunch of other stuff

I have a 10 with the 5.4 and love it.19-21 on the hiway.17 in town. 2 of my friends HAD 11's with the eco motor. They both now have new GMC's.Major transmission issues and bad gas mileage. They may be better now but they were bad then.I've also heard of ignition problems in some.

Do yourself a huge favor, drive it before you buy it, drive it like you will be driving it after you buy it. Talk to anyone that has had 1 for a while and used it to constantly pull a trailer.

I'm no ford guy, but I'd buy the 5.0, cousin had an ecoboost, and just recently traded it for a 5.0. He says he likes it way more, and says his old ecoboost wasn't near as good on fuel as what people brag about. He said his 5.0 will get 17-19mpg. He also told me the 5.0 has more snap, he said when you put the ecoboost to the floor it was a doggy and didnt like to get up and go right away.

BIL bought one with the Ecoboost V6 - I was a little surprised I thought he'd be more interested in the 5.0 or the 6.2 V8s. He is 6.4 and his sons are as tall or taller and they still had plenty of room in the back seat of his crew cab. The mileage is way better than his older Chevy with the 5.3 but not quite what is advertised. With his set up he says he averages about 19 MPG with every tank of fuel. Long drives he gets better, lots of stop and go city driving it gets worse - not bad compared to the 12-13 MPG he got with his old Chevy.

My old F150 with a 302 averages 15-16 MPG per tank - but then its very light duty with the AOD transmission - nothing I'll ever tow much with.

Wow - 3 whole people (two of them married to each other) have an issue and took it to court? Is that supposed to show how good or how bad they are?

Considering people sue McDonalds over hot coffee that doesn't sound like much of an issue.

I have a 2011 Super Crew cab with the 5.0 engine and 39,000 miles. Fuel mileage has been as high as 21 mpg running empty which is most of the time. I have been on a few trips with it fully loaded and still got good mpg considering the conditions. I have taken it on several trips fully loaded, some with a loaded trailer, and it handled the load just fine.

My previous pickup was a 2008 with the 5.4 engine and the current pickup is a better pickup with more power and gets better gas mileage.

So the question is, would I buy another one? Yup, sure would.

I got a 2011 F-150 Super Crew Lariat, 5.0 V8, 3.5x diff, factory trailer brakes built in, back up camera with zoom looks right at the trailer ball makes hoop up easy, pulled my 16-foot utility tandem trailer with 8 bales of 3X3X8 hay at 960 lbs each. With the tow mode on the 6-speed pulled like a dream, the factory brake controller makes stopping just like no trailer on, totally different than all the add-on controllers I have had over the years. I was really surprised how well it handled the load.

I was somewhat concerned about the turbos myself. Just one(or two) more things to wrong. If I was one of those guys who trades every couple of years, I would try it just for something different. However I usually keep them for the long run, and feel my trust is better placed on a good old V8.

I went from a 2006 one ton diesel to the Ecoboost which I use to pull a fifth wheel weighing 8,000#. Going up Santiam pass at 60 mph it will pick up speed at any time pulling the camper - about all you can ask or need. I wanted the max tow package (11,300#) and you can"t get it with the 5.0 V8 which is one reason I went to the Ecoboost. Towing is around 10 mpg and empty I"ve seen almost 23 on secondary roads which is pretty good for a 4 x 4 supercab. It"s been flawless - and the peak torque is around 2,000 rpm so it doesn"t scream like a V8 when pulling a load. The diesel had turbo lag - the Ecoboost doesn"t. It"s quick. However, it I wasn"t pulling a fifth wheel, I would have gone for the 5.0.

Heath72, I am Not going let you berate the 4.6,5.4 Series as a whole, it was the Trident engines that gave head trouble in the 1999 to 2001 time frame, That, was corrected later and No real problems as a whole occurred since,
My oldest Rig a 97 F-150, built in June of 96,,, 4.6 Windsor, Auto 3:55 gears in a Super-cab Long bed, 4x4, has right at 355,000 miles and has never had a problem that wasn't a wear issue. OBTW this engine has never been apart, ever! I have pulled loads that will scare the H3ll out of most 3/4tons! More times than I can count!
Next oldest was an 04 Expedition with a 5.4 it had 237,000 when my son was involved in a wreck with it, it ran great and was never apart while I owned it.
Another 04 Expedition with a 5.4 it has 127,000 our main stay now. All my rigs got better mileage before they started putting that crappy Ethanol in our Gasoline. By 2 to 4 mpg.
I have had today, 13 Fords in a Row!!!I do not trade on a whim. But, When I get rid of one it is wore-out!
Those of us who run Fords every day do so because we love them and what they do for us every day.
We DO NOT Buy Fords so we sit at the coffee shop and brag about fuel mileage.....We Buy Fords so when we Hook up to a big Gooseneck load of Bulls, or a a trailer load of hay or building material it will step out and walk with it , No faltering or failing, PERIOD!
If you are only in to looking at Fords thinking you will get gas mileage you will be sadly disappointed! Stick with your GMs. You have No Business Driving a Ford.

.
PS.. I also have a 01,F-350 Crewcab, 7.3 Dsl with 240,000 miles too.
My 2011 Edge has the Non-turbo version on the Eco-boost engine it get about 23MPG when I put a pencil to it the Computer says 21, It has close to 80,000 on it today!
Personally I believe a man is Always better of with a Ford over a GM any day! Ford took No Government Money! The 6.2 is a monster engine but they are thirsty, But a powerhouse beyond belief. Just look at the Raptors!
Hope this helps!
later,
jas

2012 f 150 4X4 with eco boost . Just hit 30,000 miles. Have owned ever thing ford has for the last 35 years trading ever two or three years. This truck seems to suit my driving habits better than any I have ever had. Somewhere 19 to 21 mpg just running around daily. When I hit the long road for 600 mile days I can see 22 or so. Trailer wise about all I pull is car hauler with a 7800 lb min hoe. Will get up and go better than the last v8 I had and still get 10 to 12 mpg. They do have them geared out pretty high but with the 6 speed transmission you will like the truck. My opinion lots nicer inside than the chevy. Right now is a good time to look programs are pretty strong.
