We finally got to use the IH rake the 4h kids restored last year.
Our club did an early first cut. (usually everyone around here cuts after memorial day)
This is my wife pulling the rake in the town field our club gets to hay (with the tractor the kids restored).
Works great. In fact I'd say it's better than some of the more modern rakes I use.
Really scrubs the ground. Leaves very little hay behind.
Never got above 2nd gear with it, so it was slow. Might have been able to, but it just didn't feel like it wanted to be pushed too hard. And we weren't in any rush.
A real pleasure to watch it in action.
Only problem was we threw a few teeth - the nuts worked loose. Now we know better.
We paid a bounty for the lost teeth - $1.00 for each tooth found. Gave the kids something fun to do while we finished raking.
All were found (amazing what a motivator $1 can be).
So, a big thank you to everyone who helped answer questions on the rake, especially Leroy - would never have gotten those wheels off without your insight!
Using this equipment will make some great memories for these kids, most have never hayed before and would would never have the opportunity otherwise.
So just wanted to let you guys know you're a big part of making it happen.
And a side note - in the past, people have asked me to post pictures of the 4H club, but due to privacy concerns, I'm not allowed to post pictures of the kids online. Frustrating, but that's the world we live in.
So the only ones I can ever post are only of my own family. But all the kids were present, and loading bales.
