I have a cummins in my 97 and in 30 minute it got an extra 100 HP just by sliding the fuel plate ahead on the injection pump . The fuel milage did not get any worse under load and got better without a load I have the 3.42 gear ratio and with 12 head of fat cattle in a steel trailer I do not have to shift for hills after i get 5th gear it will pull as long as RPM is over 1500
