Chevy went 12V neg ground in 55 with 6V still an option. Ford 1956, Mopar 1956. Some big Cars like Cadillac and Oldsmobile were 12V already in the late 40's
A neighbor said he had a 6V 55 chevy pickup, but I never asked him if it was an early 55 which was identical to the 54 pickup, or a late 55 with the new body style.
