Here's how I cook corned beef and cabbage (or boiled dinner) and it turns out really good. Put the corned beef in a big pot, add one can of beer, then add water to cover the meat. I put some granulated garlic on the meat too and add the spice packet to cook with the meat. Bring to boil and lower heat and let cook for 2 to 3 hours. When done, remove the meat and add the cabbage wedges, carrots and onion. Let cook until tender or however you like it. I like my cabbage well cooked and tender. I cook the cabbage until the green is gone and it turns a light brown and the carrots are tender. The onions will pretty much dissolve but they add a great flavor. Then add potatoes halves and allow to simmer until cooked. Then add the corned beef back on top and allow to warm up. Then it's ready to eat. The beer really adds some good flavor to the pot of dinner. One of the greatest meals you can make and you can have it for several days, it only gets better. You can also use the leftover corned beef for corned beef hash. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll like it. Dick
