need adv: from the cook in the family, i've cooked simple things, [now, day late, dollar short], how long/when should i cook little red tatters, before or during/with c-beef, and when should the cabbage cook,,it's o-k to laugh at me, cause i'm a batchlor, went to store, got goodies,,now how do i do it...thanks, bob

Bob you can go to allrecipes.com and type in the recipe you want, (corned beef and cabbage) or anything else, and it will give you the recipe. (Except I don't think 15 minutes is long enough to cook cabbage). I have several cookbooks, but much of the time it is quicker to find a recipe on the internet.

Cabbage is slow to cook. The little taters not so long. Be sure to add some onions. Onions don't take long to cook either and are good in every main dish. Desert dishes get raisins.

it depends how you like cabbage. I like it crunchy so I do not cook it over 10 or 15 minutes if cut up fairly fine, some like it more limp and that can take longer to cook. Also the type of cabbage makes a difference, ruffly leaves cook faster than flat ones in my experience.

Here's how I cook corned beef and cabbage (or boiled dinner) and it turns out really good.
Put the corned beef in a big pot, add one can of beer, then add water to cover the meat. I put some granulated garlic on the meat too and add the spice packet to cook with the meat. Bring to boil and lower heat and let cook for 2 to 3 hours. When done, remove the meat and add the cabbage wedges, carrots and onion. Let cook until tender or however you like it. I like my cabbage well cooked and tender. I cook the cabbage until the green is gone and it turns a light brown and the carrots are tender. The onions will pretty much dissolve but they add a great flavor. Then add potatoes halves and allow to simmer until cooked. Then add the corned beef back on top and allow to warm up. Then it's ready to eat. The beer really adds some good flavor to the pot of dinner. One of the greatest meals you can make and you can have it for several days, it only gets better. You can also use the leftover corned beef for corned beef hash. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll like it.

thanks everyone for replys, i didn't want to ask any of my friends/family, so they would rub it in that i can't cook...

I cook the CB first. Put it in big bowl and then do the cabbage and onions next. Taste test how you like best. Then combine with CB. Last, quarter the small reds, and cook. About 20 minutes, Just so you can poke with a fork and they split open.
Then combine them with the rest and just bring to a boil, simmer 5 minutes to "adjust" the flavor.
Buy some pumpernickle bread and provolone cheese to make fried leftover sandwiches. Better than the CB&C Like Ruebens.
Gordo, another bachelor gourmet. And I do use "allrecipes dot com"

Funny, I was at Wally World this past week and picked one of their prepared corned beef briskets in the sealed packages from the meat packers that has already been brined. It had the seasoning package with it and all.

Probably tomorrow it will get the final touches and be associated with some boiled cabbage and home made corn bread, with a little beverage of choice and sounds like a pig out.

Sorry, no one is invited. My sweetie and I can manage on our own. Grin. Probably will have enough left over for a Reuben sandwich or two with real sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and toasted rye bread.

I've been BBQing and eating Brisket all my life, but never have I seen a brisket as lean and tender as this one. I know the Corned Beef marinade will make it more tender, but geez this is outstanding. Well worth the cost.
