There's a guy at work here that lives in the city but has no cell phone, no computer (so no internet access) and no cable TV. If he didn't have a (wired) phone and electricity he'd be off the grid completely. It's handy to take on the road or use occasionally at home as a hot spot when I want higher speed internet access (have satellite internet too, but the speed is sometimes barely faster than dial up).
