I have been using Shell Rotella T 0-40 in my JD 2550 and 2130 for a couple of years now. The local JD dealer showed me how JD recommended it, and because it is synthetic, you can use it year around and you can go 50 percent longer between oil changes than with a normal oil. There is a rumor around here that Shell makes JD's oil for them, so it is supposed to be the same. Before using 0w40 I used 15w40 in the summer and 0w30 in the winter. I wouldn't be afraid of any Shell oil, and I would use what your dealer recommends for your areas temperatures and how hard you work the tractor.
