Many fixed displacement gear pumps are used in open center systems. Ford did a lot of that over the years with smaller tractors.
What Jim is talking about... is technically classed as an open center load sensing system as it used fixed displacement gear pumps and an unloading valve. However... all spool valving beyond the load sense valve WAS Closed Center Load Sensing (CCLS). They used the same CCLS remotes as would have been used on modern Pressure Flow Compensated (PFC) hydraulic systems that is standard on all larger tractors today.
