MarkB: My General faming liability is under $500 for a year's policy. That policy only covers you when you are doing normal activities that are part of production farming. Having people on the farm for tours or horse ride is not production agriculture.
The trouble is that since we lost the liability exemption having groups on the farm is going to be considered entertainment/tourism. So you will need the same type of policy as a business that runs a ski slope, ATV race track, pumpkin hay ride, or B&B etc. So you need a separate policy just to cover the liability for that activity.
Think about a lawyer drooling over a kid getting hurt on your farm. Think you would win in front of a jury??? They would make you look like a rich person and the plaintiff would look at you like their own personal lotto ticket.
