Rich, thats ok, they just showed one of these on Top Gear, on History channel, and in on of the challenges they do, requirement was to drain oil and maybe other fluids, to see which of three cars would make it the longest, the early 90's might have been a '92 went laps without oil, unreal.
Some humor, but that sounds typical with the age and miles, I was driving a '91 model a 3 years ago, 30 miles each way, good MPG as it was a Capri w/turbo, was like 30 MPG + or -, hopefully you get it sorted, I had to go out and get a payment, darned thing got ahead of me on repairs, 15 years of service, 140,000 + miles, engine still ran great.
