I used to say "Buy a Maytag for the cheap price, not because of the reputation", but I no longer tell anybody to buy a Maytag. We bought a new Maytag washer from our local appliance store to "buy local". It lasted a couple of years and began to leak. My brother, who used to work at this appliance store said it would be too expensive to fix and the repair might not last. So we bought an identical washer on my Grandma's estate sale that was less than a year old and had probably less than 25 uses on it. A couple of months later the fill solenoid went out and flooded the laundry room. We bought a Maytag side-by-side 'fridge that is one of the biggest POS fridges that I've seen. It can't keep up in the summer and it freezes in the winter. Plus the ice maker usually doesn't work without you banging on the ice cube holder first. "It works fine" is the comment that the appliance store tells us. My mom bought a Maytag deep freeze that went out under warranty. They put on a fitting so that they could add freon and when it went out again they told her that the warranty had expired, "So sorry!". (They didn't file the paperwork when they put on the fitting, so now that the warranty is expired, my mom is SOL) I bought a GE washing machine in December and there is no comparison between the two. I will not own another new Maytag appliance ever again.
