Lots of variables and miles per gallon is only one of them. How many miles per year? How much towing versus empty, going to run the truck into the ground or trade in a couple years? all factor in. I can tell you from my fleet management experience that it takes LOTS of miles and many years of ownership to have diesel pay out. I can also tell you that the highest mileage figures you read are BS, as are the lowest. Use the middle ground to figure costs. The V10s of that vintage are pretty bullet proof. Personally I changed back to gas after 25 years of diesels.
