The reason Ford upped the wages is because he couldn't keep trained people on the assy line. People hated the work and Ford was paying what amounted to a minimum type wage at the time. So Ford went whole hog and did the famous $5.00 a day wage when most people were making a dollar a day. He paid that wage forever, until his company was going down the tubes trying to sell 1905 tech to 1925 people. It wasn't as simple as Ford generously giving that wage to the poor, downtrodden masses.
