GM is trying to sell the idea that touch screens are the way to go. Cheap for GM to build, but a very bad idea IMHO where safe driving needs you to keep your eyes on the road.
As examples, my 91 chevy heater / AC Defrost controls use a display screen to indicate all settings. To adjust anything, I need to take my eyes off the road for a few-15 seconds to check or adjust the heat, defrost or AC.
My 2000 Dodge Dakota has 3 mechanical control knobs for all heat defrost and AC functions. I can check and adjust all settings by feel of the knob positions, without taking my eyes off the road.
