What part if Idaho is it coming from? When I harvested wheat there I saw a lot of irrigated alfalfa put up. It's rarely rained on between the time it's cut and the time it's put up so it should look good and green. Weeds shouldn't be a problem but you never know. I don't have any idea what the protein is in hay from that area. From what I saw they pour the water to it, shut the water off, cut and bale and turn the water back on, trying for six cuttings. Alfalfa doesn't like to have wet feet but their soil is so sandy I don't think it's possible to get it too wet. The small squares are all picked up and stacked by machine a quarter section at a time. The outfit we cut for had something around 5000 acres of irrigated alfalfa and most all of it was put up in 4X4X8 big bales, taken to a plant where they were compressed even farther and then loaded on special tall rail cars headed for Florida. This was in the desert valley area and I don't remember seeing any non-irrigated hay in the foothills. Probably more information than you need LOL. Jim

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
