So that means that sometimes air fuel mix is too lean to burn so that becomes smoke because of incomplete combustion. I have even had a lift pump fail on a diesel and at full throttle it would backfire out the exhaust and shoot a flame.
Hmmm... But if it were running too lean to burn the fuel, wouldn't I lose a bunch of horse-power too? It still pulls and works just fine, it just blows lots of black smoke when the bush-hog bottoms out on a dirt mound or hits a bunch of extra thick weeds... And it still runs smooth as glass...
