I tried some that Menards sells. They are OK, but nothing great. They do not last as long as good solid oak or elm wood, nor do they produce as much heat, but they do work pretty good as fillers between the big gaps when you have to fill the box at night before going to bed.

They are an OK supplement, but a poor replacement.
